Traffic Information System at the Directorate of Road Traffic and safety Services (DRTSS) has been paralyzed following a technical error encountered at the directorate for over a week. This has negatively impacted the department and its agencies making them unable to provide all the services that are processed through the system. According to the press statement of January 15,2025, from the Ministry of Transport and Public Works the directorate and the system supplier have been struggling to restore the system as expected. "The ministry and the system supplier are working tirelessly to resolve the problem since it was discovered. Despite the urgency to have the system back within the shortest period, the technical nature of the problem required more time to resolve than earlier estimated," said part of the statement signed by secretary for transport and public works Eng.David Mzandu.  Police in Rumphi have found a dead body of a newborn baby wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped at Matunkha stream in the district. Rumphi Police Spokesperson Noel Kamchenga has confirmed the development saying they suspect it was dumped by unknown woman on Tuesday. They have since launched an investigation to trace and arrest the suspect for infanticide. Trends of dumping newborn babies are on the rise in the country with Nkhatabay alone also registering three consecutive cases in late December last year. Reported by Phales Nthambo - Rumphi

At least 16,832 Acres have been destroyed and over 30,000 households affected with a continued massive Palisade Fire in the Pacific Palisades Neighborhood. The fire which started on Tuesday 7 January 2025 has since spread quickly due to strong Santa winds with gusts reaching 100 Mph while recording a 0% containment. Mandatory order has been issued to evacuate residents including several areas and parts of Santa Monica and Malibu. High Court of Malawi Judge Kenan Manda and Magistrate Diana Mangwana are some of the public officers implicated in the 26 corruption complaints that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has received. Ntcheu Puma Filling Station has its operational services been suspended for allegedly flouting procedures of selling fuels. The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) who has effected the suspension says selling fuels to customers in jerrycans and gallons is illegal. The suspension will be lifted subject to satisfactory implementation of measures taken to avoid reoccurrence of the malpractice, according to MERA. MERA said it will not hesitate to take necessary actions against service stations that violate measures stipulated by the regulator. Dr McDonald Mafuta Mwale has been appointed new Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor replacing Dr William Banda who has since been fired in the recent cabinet re-configuration. This follows a press statement released by the state house and signed by its secretary, Coleen Zamba late Monday. According to the statement. Dr Mafuta Mwale will be Deputized by Dr Kisu Simwaka. FCB Nyasa Big Bullets has signed its former captain and assistant coach Peter Mponda who has resigned from Silver Strikers as head coach. Mponda takes over a three year contract from Casto Pasuwa who has been linked with reports that he may be joining the Malawi National team (The Flames). Chief Executive officer for the People's team Albert Chigoga has confirmed of unveileiling their man back on the People's board today. Peter Mponda became controvert when he resigned from the bankers soon after he earned the 2024 TNM Superleague championship and consequently signed an extended three year contract with the capital city giants. Before going to Silver Strikers Mponda had been coaching some team abroad. Silver Strikers executives were quoted in the country's dailies warning that any local club reported to have roped in Mponda will bare the repayment of a contract close of K26 million. In a press statement released today signed by the secretary to the president and cabinet Collen Zamba,some have been replaced by others. Jessy kabwira has been appointed as the minister of education,Monica Chayang'anamuno has replaced Harry Mkandawire as the minister of defence, Ezekiel Peter Ching'oma as the minister of homeland security replacing Kenneth Zikhale Ng'oma who has been appointed as the minister of mining.
